Three reasons: 1) It’s Friday; 2) This makes me happy; 3) Who doesn’t love an epic red-meat rant reminding us of exactly what it is we need to focus on amid all of the day-to-day he-said-she-said politics?
While we often talk about over-regulation and its many unintended consequences in terms of vague generalities, here’s Rep. Mike Kelly, Republican from Pennsylvania, on the House floor with some great specifics and a Huzzah!-worthy rallying cry, to boot.
And with that little mind-bomb of truth, the assembled Congresspeople all cheer — and it feels so good. Who says Congressional proceedings are always boring?
I especially liked his line about how Americans want to “thrive, not just survive” (potentially awesome Romney campaign slogan? Anyone?). Americans already have all the know-how, ingenuity, willpower it takes to create robust prosperity, and they have it in spades. The only thing holding us back is our own stupid, self-imposed, overbearing government-tax-regulatory structures. Honestly, now — 1.5% economic growth? What are we doing?
